** Newly updated with a poignant epilogue **
In November 2011, after years in remission, 58-year-old Walter Keller had nearly lost his latest battle with leukemia. Desperate, the Keller family turned to University of Pennsylvania researcher Dr. Carl June and his small but determined band of colleagues to see if Walt could qualify for the group's radical, barely tested gene-therapy treatment for cancer.
In this gripping, emotional read, journalist and science writer Jason Fagone (Wired, GQ, New York Times Magazine) shows how what happened next — to Walt and a handful of other patients — may change the course of medicine and offer new hope to millions of cancer sufferers and their families.

Patient No. 7 One Man, Four Researchers, and the Quest to Cure Cancer ( Single) eBook Jason Fagone Reviews
I found this book to give me a greater understanding of the cutting edge of immunotherapy. As a cancer patient myself, looking at immunotherapy, I gain a greater respect and understanding to those who laid the road before me. I will be starting therapy in a few weeks. Prayers for healing!
A story of true pioneers, the scientists, the surgeons and the patients, whose courage in the face of adversity is humbling.
Excellent read. Easily understood by the non medical person. Gives me hope that treatments for all cancers will change radically and successfully in my lifetime.
Fascinating article that gives hope to finding a cure for cancer in the near future!
A good quick read that is a true story. This would be good for anyone interested in cancer research and how people cope with it. There is hope and a lot of amazing research going on.
Patient No. 7 enters the future of personalized treatments for cancer that work, and brings hope for the age of "cure", or at least chronic disease. The determination of the researchers was brave and deeply appreciated.
More details on new advances is always helpful. One can only hope that it will continue and help many people soon. Most of us have seen the chemo/radiation treatment now being used as something that needs to be replaced. The description was very clear.
It was circumspect in the fact that only specific cancers were receiving clinical trials with new drugs in the research process of a few researchers I guess I ordered it to learn a larger spectrum of information on
various types of cancer in various organs or systems. It could be useful info for readers who have little knowledge of this segment of drug trials and approvals.
